The English and French Department of IES Mediterráneo have celebrated the Human Rights Day by designing posters with the articles of the Declaration of the Human Rights making a relation with these articles and the Spanish Constitution. The 2º Bachillerato students created several comics developing these articles to diffuse them among the other students at school. These comics have been created by using: Pixton. It is a wonderful online tool that helps students create attractive comics, it is fun and easy to use.They also made a gymkhana with this topic that was carried out on 21st December at our school.

The European Commission needs your creativity to spread a message aboutresponsible driving among young people.

The winning poster will be translated into all 23 official EU languages,it will be distributed in 27 European countries, and used in a campaign inBrussels, and possibly in similar campaigns in other Member States.

The winner will receive a prize of 2000 € and will be invited to theceremony on November 24, 2011, in Brussels.

Here we are one more time. This year we have some novelties: first of all we are in the Bilingüal Programme and this is a big challenge, on the other hand we are involved in two Comenius projects. One is about Solidarity and is called "Beleiving in Humanity" and the other is about the importance of harbour cities and their social, economic and cultural influence. That means we are going to be very busy.
Regarding the implementation of our bilingual section we have created a page on the website of our department for this section to meet the needs of the programme and, of course, to help our 1ºESO students who begin this experience. That is why I have dedicated a page within the previous one. We invite you to visit it and begin your journey now.

Comenius: a new project

We are involved in a new project. It is an european program in which we try to encourage Reading. Our program name is "Reading for travelling through the paths of life" and our partners are: Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, Romania and Turkey. The program consists of the exchange of experiences among these countries in order to improve Reading encouragement techniques. IES Mediterraneo library won the third prize on a national contest called: "Concurso nacional de buenas prácticas para la dinamización e innovación de las bibliotecas de centros escolares para el año 2007", announced by the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia. Based on this project the school applied for the Comenius program and was accepted, that's why our school is now coordinating this Comenius program. We have made a web page on Wikispaces that we'd like to share with you. You'll be able to easily join our discussions.I hope you'll join us! Just click on the image and you'll go there.

Its name is LINGRO and it is very easy: when you enter LINGO you write the address of the webpage you want to translate, choose the language and wait for a few seconds, afterwards you can click on any word you don't know and it will be inmediately translated, you can even listen to its sound. My time as a teacher there is over. Thank you very much for helping me to enjoy my job, it has been wonderful to work with you all for these twenty years. You have been the best part of my job, sometimes it has been a challenge to get you motivated but when I got it, you really made me happy.
My new school is IES Mediterráneo and I will be there at your disposal, as usual. It’s exciting to have a new project ahead: after so many years working in the same school.

Rosanna's recipe

This a recipe Rosanna gave me last week, Victoria sponge cake, I've made it following her instructions and the result was fantastic, I recommend it to you all to celebrate the end of the classes.
Ingredients:
112g of unsalted butter or margarine (I prefer butter)
112g of flour with a teaspoon of baking powder
112g of sugar
2 eggs.
Preheat the oven to 180º. Grease two cake tins (15cm) with butter.
Stir the butter and sugar together. Stir the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the flour with the baking powder. Divide the cake mix into the tins and bake in the oven for around 20 minutes. Allow the cakes to cool slightly, then take them out of the tins to cool completely.
For the filling stir together 50g of butter and 100g of icing sugar. Spread some jam onto one of the cakes and the buttercream on the other, then sanswich them together.
Easy, isn't it?

Have you ever heard about Oregon? It is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The area was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before the arrival of traders, explorers and settlers. Spanish explorers sight the Oregon Coast in 1543 and it became the 33rd USA state on February 14, 1859. Oregon is located on the Pacific coast between Washington to the north, California to the south, Nevada on the southeast and Idaho to the east.The valley of the Willamette River in western Oregon is the most densely populated. Oregon enjoys a diverse landscape including a scenic Pacific coastline, the volcanoes of a glaciated Cascade Mountain Range, dense evergreen forests, the country's deepest lake, Crater Lake, and high desert across much of the eastern portion of the state.

The history of Women's Day dates back to New York in 1857, when hundreds of working women went on strike and demonstrated against low salaries, long working hours and inhuman working conditions. 35 Years later in Copenhagen, Denmark, it was decided that the anniversary day of the women's "New York Strike" would be celebrated as International Women's Day. On the 8th of March 1975, the UN (United Nations) officially declared the 8th of March as a day of women's rights and world peace.
In all over the world this day is dedicated to women.

I'd like to wish all women all the best, and I invite men to celebrate this day with women all over the world!

Esta es una webquest creada especialmente para 3º de Diversificación, con ella pretendo que nos adentremos en el mundo de la inmigración, aprendiendo un poco más de su vida y costumbres y así poder ponernos en su lugar. Como la actividad se prolonga a lo largo de 6 sesiones, espero que para la Semana Intercultural la hayamos terminado y sea el momento de exponerla, ésta será, por tanto nuestra participación en esa actividad.
